funding guide

The National Network for the Arts in Health published a Resource Directory, which contained the NNAH Membership Directory, Funding Guide, Projects Database overview, Bibliography and an index of all members by both art form used and geographical location. The funding institutions listed below are for guidance and are a small selection drawn from the Resource Guide.

If you, or your organisation is seeking funding, please contact each of the organisations separately and request a copy of their funding policy and an application.

The Chase Charity
2 The Court
High Street
Harwell
Didcot
Oxfordshire
OX11 0EY
Telephone: 01235 820 044
Aims: ARTS They will consider applications for work in every aspect of the arts, including community arts and arts centres. They are particularly interested in helping charities to take their work to communities and groups who would not normally have access to the arts; for example to people living in rural areas and to those who are disadvantaged by disability, poverty or age. They already have a scheme for furthering the careers of young musicians and as a result musical performances do not receive a high priority.

SOCIAL WELFARE They are aware that there are many charities around the country carrying out excellent work with vulnerable groups and individuals but who have difficulty in raising the funds to continue. For the next three years our overall aims are to support the frail in mind and body, to broaden horizons and to promote new ways of working. They apply these aims to eight different categories: elderly, families & children, homelessness, mental health, neighbourhood work, penal affairs, physical & learning disabilities, and young people.

National businesses
Corporate sponsorship can be an effective way of funding a large event or series of events, especially if there is a large corporation based in your immediate area. Large corporations will plan far in advance. You must, therefore, submit any sponsorship request as early as possible. It is not unusual for corporate sponsorship to take one to two years to finalise.

When preparing a sponsorship proposal, keep in mind what the corporation will gain from supporting your event. Name recognition, improved community relations, cost effective advertising to the sector(s) your organisation reaches are a few of the general benefits. Your proposal should clearly and concisely outline how the corporation will profit from giving you money. If possible, show them precisely how you will use the funds.

Local Businesses

Local businesses will often sponsor local events. Because those in your area will often be aware of the work you do, it can be easier to secure funding. The added benefit to seeking local sponsorship is that the sponsors themselves will see first hand the results of their investment. The following are ideas of organisations to approach:

• Rotary
• Lions Club
• Hospital Friends
• Trade Unions
• Local media
• Local Health Authority
• Local charitable trusts
